Fredag 12 mars 2010, kl 18The work to build a ski stadium around the Royal Palace of Stockholm has begun. Platsforms, baracks, vax cabins and outdoor cafés is to be deployed. Night to Sunday begins the process of putting up about 4 000 cubic meters of artificial snow, produced and stored in Hammarbybacken. It will be placed out on the just over one kilometer long track. There has been a snowy winter in Stockholm. But in order to give skiers the best tracks available at the Royal Palace sprint, that is a part of Viessmann FIS World Cup Final 2010, it requires white snow. In order to succeed, the snow was produced in December and has since then been stored on the slopes.
Late on Saturday night is the first load of snow being placed on Mynttorget, where the work will begin. The rest of the snow will gradually be placed out on the 1090 Metres long track.
The whole course will be ready by Tuesday afternoon in time for childrens Vasalopp to have a go on the tracks before the World Cup skiers have the oppurtunity to try it.
Tuesday evening it is then time for the opening ceremony, where the Swedish Olympic medalists will be celebrated and Idol runner-up Calle Kristiansson and his band will play.
Wednesday afternoon will settle the contest with qualifiers, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
